ISLAMABAD — The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled a high-profile hearing for June 29 to take up appeals filed by PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi challenging their trial court convictions in the £190 million settlement case.

According to the cause list issued by the registrar’s office, a two-member division bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif will preside over the proceedings. The appeals contest the convictions relating to the settlement of the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) funds and the subsequent transfer of land to the Al-Qadir Trust.

Adiala Jail Dispute Over Power of Attorney Delays

A sharp legal dispute has concurrently emerged between the defense counsel and prison authorities regarding a contempt of court petition filed by the accused over administrative delays:

Defense Stance: Lead defense counsel Barrister Salman Safdar previously argued that procedural hurdles and strict meeting restrictions at Adiala Jail prevented them from obtaining signed powers of attorney within the court-mandated seven-day window.

Jail Administration Counter-Claim: In a fresh written response to the IHC, the Adiala Jail superintendent vehemently denied the allegations, accusing the defense of misleading the court. The jail administration attached a text message screenshot proving the documents were signed on June 16, asserting that the defense deliberately delayed picking them up to stall proceedings.

Court Warning: The IHC bench has sternly warned the defense team that if final arguments are not advanced on the June 29 date, the court will proceed to decide the appeals based on the existing judicial record.
