DOHA— Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held a high-level meeting with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Lusail Palace in Doha to offer profound state condolences on the passing of his father and former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The Prime Minister arrived in Doha earlier on Monday for a critical one-day visit, leading a high-profile political delegation.

Deepening Fraternal Ties Amid National Mourning

The sudden trip follows the official announcement on Sunday regarding the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at the age of 74. Regarded as the principal architect of modern Qatar, Sheikh Hamad oversaw a period of massive economic restructuring during his rule from 1995 to 2013.

In solidarity with the state of Qatar, Pakistan announced a nationwide day of mourning on Monday, flying the national flag at half-mast across all government and diplomatic installations. Accompanied by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the Prime Minister’s delegation was formally received at the Doha international airport by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani.

Addressing Middle East Conflict Dynamics

Beyond formal state condolences, senior diplomatic sources confirm that the close-door sessions at Lusail Palace focused heavily on a deteriorating regional security landscape.

The two leaders held detailed consultations regarding the fresh exchange of military attacks between the United States and Iran. This sudden escalation has threatened to derail months of delicate diplomatic mediation quietly spearheaded by both Islamabad and Doha, requiring immediate strategic synchronization between the two partner nations to safeguard regional stability and prevent further direct conflict.
