NEW YORK — Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to establish a robust bilateral framework to combat the rising threat of cybercrime and sophisticated digital fraud.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Salahuddin Ahmed, on the sidelines of the UN Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) in New York. The two nations committed to joint operational strategies to secure their digital borders and protect citizens from transnational online syndicates.

Key Agreements
- Cyber Security Pact: Enhanced intelligence-sharing to trace, block, and dismantle cross-border cybercrime and financial online scams.
- Police Modernization: The launch of specialized training and exchange programs for police officers to master advanced digital forensics and tech-driven law enforcement.
- Geopolitical Dialogue: Detailed consultations on the ongoing Middle East security crisis and the fallout of the US-Iran conflict.
Dhaka Commends Pakistan’s Regional Peace Diplomacy
During the session, Bangladeshi Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed highly lauded Pakistan’s “constructive role” in successfully restoring diplomatic channels and defusing regional hostilities in the Middle East.
In response, Naqvi credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their active peace diplomacy, which recently led to the historic Islamabad MoU. “We must seize these new opportunities to further strengthen our mutual relations and build a safer regional environment,” Naqvi emphasized.
The breakthrough adds to a highly successful diplomatic run for Pakistan at the UN summit, where Naqvi secured similar cross-border counter-terrorism and policing agreements with his counterparts from China, Russia, and Sri Lanka, alongside receiving direct commendation from UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
