The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a five-day training course for Sindh police officers at the Special Security Unit headquarters in Karachi. The course was designed in coordination with the US Consulate General Karachi. The total number of police personnel from the SSU, Central Police Office, Counter-Terrorism Department and Crime Investigation Agency who took part was 27, a police statement said.

What the Training Actually Taught
The program focused on what officials called modern investigative techniques. This consisted of threat assessment, human behavior analysis, alternative interviewing techniques, and strategic persuasion. The statement said the course provided participants with deep professional insights and practical skills to enhance their ability to identify potential threats and conduct non-adversarial investigative interviews, a more complex approach than traditional interrogation methods.
Officials laud partnership
“Such cooperation is imperative for a prosperous and peaceful country,” said Sindh Home Minister Zia ul Hasan Lanjar while speaking at the event. “It was great opportunity for Sindh Police to learn international investigative technique,” he said. He said Pakistani officers have already been sent to the United States for such specialised training, and the occasion is special because it is bringing that expertise to Karachi. He expressed gratitude to the US Consulate General for bringing the course to the local level.
IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho emphasized the significance of the course in today’s changing security scenario. “Programs like this at the high level are helping to close tactical gaps throughout the department, from mid-career commanders to the senior leadership,” he said. DIG Security Maqsood Ahmed said, “Through this program, officers from various ranks had an opportunity to learn from global expertise and modern policing strategies firsthand.
The Assistant Legal Attaché at the U.S. Consulate General Karachi commended the SSU for its world-class facilities. “The interactive sessions allowed a real exchange of ideas and professional experience between the two sides, providing officers with tools to respond more precisely to emerging security challenges,” he added. He stressed the need to sustain this capacity-building work, noting that it would strengthen institutional linkages between US and Pakistani law enforcement agencies over time.
The event was concluded with a certificate ceremony. Home Minister Lanjar and IGP Odho handed over participation certificates to the officers who passed the course.
