Twelve terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation carried out by security forces in Kalat district of Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations wing said Friday. How the Operation at Kalat Unfolded
ISPR said security forces identified and tracked a militant hideout and carried out a precise surgical strike. In the operation, all 12 militants present at the location were killed. Forces also destroyed the cache of ammunition and improvised explosive devices found at the site. ISPR said that sanitization operations are being continued in the area to clear out any remaining militants.
The military said the operation was part of its larger Azm-i-Istehkam campaign, and the security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue the relentless counter-terrorism effort at full pace to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

This latest operation comes amid a tough stretch for Balochistan. On August 31-September 1, TTP militants launched a coordinated attack on the Customs House at Ziarat Cross on the N-50 highway in Pishin district. Security forces retaliated and killed 10 militants but at the cost of losing six security personnel, including two officers.
On the same night, 11 militants of Fitna al-Hindustan were killed separately after they had set up an illegal cheque post on the N-40 Quetta-Taftan highway to extort passing traffic. Security forces clashed with the men in a fierce gun battle before killing them.

Balochistan saw the highest deterioration in its security situation last month compared to any other region in the country, according to a monthly security assessment released on July 31 by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies. The province’s total death toll soared 241 percent, from 109 in June to 372 in July. In the same period, security personnel deaths rose from six to 62, a 933 percent increase, while militant deaths rose from 75 to 238. In that month, 18 members of local peace committees were also killed.
In all, the frequency of these operations — almost weekly through August and into September — suggests a security campaign operating at a genuinely elevated tempo, even as militant groups continue to mount attacks inflicting real losses on Pakistan’s security forces alongside the casualties they suffer themselves.
