LAHORE — August 28, 2025 — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally visited Shahdara to oversee the government’s flood response as rising waters in the Ravi River continue to threaten surrounding communities.

On-Ground Inspection

  • Maryam Nawaz, accompanied by Rescue 1122 teams, boarded a rescue boat to inspect water levels and check the integrity of embankments near the Shahdara Bridge.

Directives for Emergency Response

  • In a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister ordered the immediate evacuation of residents and livestock from all riverine areas.
  • She directed full mobilization of resources, including boats, life jackets, and medical teams, to strengthen rescue efforts.

Army Called In for Assistance

  • Maryam Nawaz formally requested the Pakistan Army’s deployment in several districts, including Lahore, to support the civil administration in managing the crisis.
