Lahore, December 9, 2025 – Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari on Tuesday made it clear that she personally opposes banning any political party or imposing governor’s rule in any province, but warned that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s continuing rhetoric and conduct are leaving authorities with little choice.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Bokhari said the PTI leadership’s recent statements were “putting Pakistan at stake” and had turned the party into a “threat” to national stability.
Key Highlights
- Bokhari: “As a political worker I do not support banning any party or governor’s rule — but PTI is pushing us in that direction”
- Compared incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan with self-exiled MQM leader Altaf Hussain, saying Khan has become “Altaf Hussain part two”
- Warned that sustained campaign against the head of an institution “will not be long until a full stop is placed”
- Highlighted terrorism surge in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under-staffed police, missing equipment and absence of Crimes Control Department under PTI government
- Stated Pakistan “cannot run in parallel with Imran’s politics” and that tolerance shown over the past 2.5 years “has a limit”
PTI’s Rhetoric Crosses Red Lines, Says Minister
Bokhari alleged that Imran Khan’s policies and language have become even harsher than those once used by Altaf Hussain, whose speeches were banned by court order in 2015 for attacking state institutions.
She stressed that the current military leadership has brought Pakistan back from global isolation and placed the country on the path to progress, achievements the PTI “cannot digest.”
The minister’s strong remarks come amid mounting pressure on PTI following last week’s ISPR press conference in which Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry described certain political narratives as a national security threat.
Political circles in Lahore see today’s statement as the sharpest official warning yet that patience with the opposition party is wearing thin. The Punjab Assembly, in a related development on the same day, passed a resolution seeking action against elements acting against state interests.
