Gold prices in Pakistan fall below Rs500,000 mark amid global decline

Apr 22, 2026 | Economy

KARACHI (April 22, 2026) — Domestic gold prices in Pakistan witnessed a second consecutive day of losses on Wednesday, dropping by Rs1,200 per tola. The decline pushed the price of the precious metal below the key psychological barrier of Rs500,000 as international rates continued to cool.

Market Summary

Local Per Tola (24-K): Rs498,962 (Down Rs1,200)

Local 10-Gram (24-K): Rs427,779 (Down Rs1,029)

Silver Per Tola: Rs8,324 (Down Rs34)

International Spot Gold: $4,766 per ounce (Down $12)

Key Market Drivers

According to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), the local market is closely following international trends. Globally, gold prices shed $12 to settle at $4,766 per ounce (including a $20 premium).

The persistent downward movement is largely attributed to:

Diplomatic Progress: The announcement of an extension in the US-Iran ceasefire has slightly eased the “war premium” that had previously driven safe-haven buying.

Currency Factors: A stabilizing US dollar in the global market is making gold more expensive for holders of other currencies, dampening demand.

Silver Correction: Silver prices also saw a marginal dip, decreasing by Rs34 to reach Rs8,324 per tola.

This latest drop follows a Rs1,000 decrease on Tuesday, marking a cumulative loss of Rs2,200 over the last 48 hours. Investors remain cautious as they monitor the high-level peace negotiations currently taking place in Islamabad.
