ISLAMABAD, May 16 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed a decision by China’s IBI Group to establish its digital economy headquarters in Pakistan. Speaking to an 11-member Chinese business delegation at the PM House, the prime minister stated that the new facility will act as a command center for the country’s digital transformation. He emphasized that the project will provide Pakistan’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with a direct gateway to tap into the massive Chinese consumer market.

Quick Facts

  • China’s IBI Group will establish its Digital Economy headquarters in Pakistan.
  • The project will act as a command center to modernize Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
  • The initiative aims to connect Pakistani small and medium businesses (SMEs) to the Chinese market.
  • The visit follows up on decisions made at the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference in September 2025.
  • The Chinese delegation was led by Qian Xiaojun, the founder and president of IBI Beijing United Technology.
  • Top Pakistani ministers from IT, commerce, investment, and petroleum attended the meeting.

The visit of the Chinese delegation serves as a practical follow-up to the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business (B2B) Investment Conference held in Beijing last September. The head of the delegation, Qian Xiaojun, expressed strong confidence in Pakistan’s economic potential, stating that IBI Group aims to build the digital backbone required to modernize the country’s trade and industries. The collaboration is expected to focus heavily on promoting digital trade, smoothing out cross-border investment, and boosting industrial partnership between the two nations.

This development comes at a crucial time as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif prepares for an official visit to China later this month. Lauding China’s economic and technological progress under President Xi Jinping, the prime minister highlighted that strengthening private sector B2B ties is a top priority for his administration. By digitalizing trade routes and creating shared platforms, the government hopes this headquarters will help local Pakistani industries scale up and recover from recent regional economic pressures.
