ISLAMABAD — Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Bangladesh’s air and navy chiefs have agreed to enhance defence and security cooperation between their countries, Pakistan’s military said on Monday.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Gen Mirza is on an official visit to Bangladesh, where CJCSC Gen Shamshad held separate meetings with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, and Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen S.M. Kamrul Hassan.

“Both sides expressed optimism about strengthening defence and security collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding military-to-military engagements,” the ISPR said.

The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the regional security environment and evolving global developments. Both sides emphasised the importance of closer cooperation to promote stability and mutual understanding in the region.

The military’s media wing said CJCSC Gen Shamshad reaffirmed Pakistan’s appreciation for its “longstanding fraternal ties” with Bangladesh and expressed the resolve to further deepen relations “on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect.”

During his visit, the CJCSC also toured the School of Infantry and Tactics in Sylhet, where he interacted with faculty members and students. “The civil-military leadership of Bangladesh appreciated the high professional standards of the Pakistan Armed Forces and their contributions to regional peace and counterterrorism,” the ISPR added.

Upon his arrival at Senakunjo, Gen Mirza was presented with a guard of honour and laid a wreath at Shikha Anirban, a national monument honouring fallen soldiers.

The visit marks a continuation of warming ties between Islamabad and Dhaka, which have seen renewed engagement since last year’s political transition in Bangladesh. In January, Lt Gen Kamrul Hassan met Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Rawalpindi, where both sides underscored the need for an enduring defence partnership.
