Interior Minister Assures ‘Foolproof’ Security as U.S. VVIPs Arrive for Peace Talks

Apr 9, 2026 | Current Affairs

ISLAMABAD — Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday personally assured U.S. Ambassador Natalie Baker that “comprehensive and foolproof” security protocols are in place for the high-level American delegation arriving for the historic U.S.-Iran peace talks. The capital has been transformed into a high-security zone as Pakistan prepares to host one of the most significant diplomatic summits in its history.

The ‘Special Guests’: VVIPs Confirmed

During the high-profile meeting at the Ministry of Interior, Naqvi confirmed that the visiting U.S. delegation includes:

  • Vice President JD Vance

  • Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff

  • Jared Kushner

“These are our special guests, and a comprehensive plan has been prepared to provide them with security in every respect,” Naqvi stated. Ambassador Baker, in return, lauded Pakistan’s “tireless diplomatic role” in securing the ceasefire and facilitating the “Islamabad Venue.”

Capital Under Lockdown: The Security Grid

The government has implemented a “Blue Book” VVIP protocol, typically reserved for heads of state, to ensure the safety of both U.S. and Iranian delegations.

  • The Red Zone Seal: The capital’s Red Zone and the high-security zone starting from Faisal Avenue have been completely sealed. Access is restricted to authorized personnel and delegates only.

  • Public Holidays: To minimize movement and potential security risks, a two-day public holiday was declared for Thursday and Friday in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

  • Advance Teams: A 30-member U.S. advance team is already on the ground, having spent the last 24 hours reviewing the hotel reserved exclusively for the delegations within the Red Zone.

  • Traffic Diversions: The Express Highway remains under heavy surveillance with specific diversions in place. The Islamabad Police have advised commuters to avoid these routes as VVIP motorcades begin their movements.

Medical and Emergency Alert

Reflecting the sensitivity of the geopolitical climate, all state-run hospitals and rescue departments in the twin cities have been placed on high alert. Staffing has been doubled in emergency wards, and essential supplies have been stockpiled to handle any contingency during the delegates’ stay.

Chronology of the ‘Islamabad Venue’

The Saturday talks mark the first in-person meeting between senior U.S. and Iranian officials since the outbreak of hostilities on February 28. The meeting follows a two-week ceasefire brokered by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, which has already seen:

  1. Oil prices drop back below $100.

  2. The Strait of Hormuz begin its limited reopening.

  3. The Pakistan Stock Exchange reach record highs.

As the U.S. delegation lands, the eyes of the world are on Islamabad to see if the 10-point Iranian proposal and the 15-point U.S. framework can be merged into a lasting peace treaty.
