Quetta, Nov. 9 — Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Saturday announced that full immunisation coverage in the province has increased from 38 per cent to 47 per cent within a year, marking the first major improvement in vaccination rates after five years of stagnation.

Speaking at a press briefing in Quetta, CM Bugti described the progress as a “significant improvement” in the province’s public health indicators, attributing it to reforms introduced by his government and a renewed focus on service delivery.

“The remarkable rise in child immunisation is a reflection of the provincial government’s transparent policies, improved governance, and commitment to the health of our children,” he said.

Bugti cited third-party verification from the Immunisation Coverage Survey and a report from Aga Khan University, both of which confirmed the gains and indicated that 70 per cent of the target set under the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) has been achieved.

Health officials in the province have long faced challenges in implementing vaccination campaigns due to difficult terrain, security issues, and limited access to remote communities. The chief minister said his administration had prioritised strengthening the EPI framework by improving coordination between provincial and district health departments and ensuring accountability in the system.

“This achievement in the health sector is a guarantee of a better and safer future for the people of Balochistan,” Bugti added, pledging continued investment in preventive healthcare, vaccination infrastructure, and community awareness.

Observers and public health experts have welcomed the development, describing it as an encouraging step toward bridging the immunisation gap between Balochistan and other provinces. The government has said efforts are underway to raise full immunisation coverage above 60 per cent by next year.
