On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the government confirmed that incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan was shifted from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad during the early hours of the morning for a critical medical procedure.
While the government framed the move as a successful fulfillment of medical requirements, the PTI and Khan’s family have fiercely criticized the “clandestine” nature of the operation.

The Medical Procedure: What Happened?
According to a statement from a PIMS doctor and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry:
- The Treatment: Khan was administered a second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection to treat Right Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO).
- The Team: The procedure was performed by a board of specialists from PIMS and Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital.
- Health Status: Doctors reported that Khan’s vitals (ECG and Echocardiography) were normal. He remained “vitally stable” before and after the day-care surgery and was shifted back to Adiala Jail before dawn.
- Future Schedule: A third injection is already scheduled for March 24, 2026.
Totally unacceptable that PM Imran Khan has been treated in the absence of his personal physicians. What are they hiding?? CJ Yahya Afridi sahib, now is the time to stand and be counted. Issue orders to ensure PM Imran Khan’s treatment in the presence of his physicians and in the…

From the news, we found out that Imran Khan was taken to PIMS again in the middle of the night, supposedly for his second injection in the eye.

PTI’s Objection: “What are they hiding?”
The PTI leadership and Khan’s family have rejected the government’s narrative, raising several points of contention:
- The “Midnight” Move: PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan claimed he was only informed via a message at 2:00 AM that the procedure was already happening, without any prior notice.
Barrister Gohar Khan (@BarristerGohar) February 24, 2026
- Lack of Family Consent: Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, asserted that the law requires family to be informed before a prisoner undergoes surgery. She alleged that doctors at PIMS are being “threatened with serious consequences” if information leaks.
- Trust Deficit: The family continues to reject reports from government-affiliated hospitals, labeling them “doctored.” They maintain their demand for treatment at Shifa International Hospital in the presence of his personal physician, Dr. Asim.
TTAP Protests Intensify at Supreme Court
For the second consecutive day, the opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) staged a sit-in outside the Supreme Court:
- Participants: Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Faisal Javed Khan, Azam Swati, and Shandana Gulzar were among the prominent leaders present.
- Demands: Beyond medical transparency, the protesters demanded the immediate scheduling of Khan’s legal cases and a meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
- Omar Ayub’s Appeal: Former MNA Omar Ayub called on the CJP to “stand and be counted” by issuing a direct order for Khan to be treated at a hospital of his choice.
The situation demands transparency, not secrecy. The illegitimate regime’s clandestine actions only give rise to more questions.

Current Situation Summary
| Stakeholder | Official Stance |
| Government | Treatment is transparent, legal, and successful; eyes are improving. |
| PTI Leadership | The “secrecy” proves the government is hiding the true extent of Khan’s vision loss. |
| Medical Board | Vision improved from 6/36 to 6/9 after the first dose; stable after the second. |
| Family | PIMS is “unequipped” for this condition; demand independent specialists. |
The focus now shifts to the Supreme Court’s potential intervention following the TTAP’s persistent protests.
