Pentagon Identifies Remaining US Soldiers Killed in Kuwait Drone Strike

Mar 5, 2026 | Current Affairs

The US Department of Defense officially identified the final two American service members killed during a devastating Iranian drone strike on a military installation in Kuwait. The release brings the total confirmed death toll from Sunday’s targeted aerial assault to six US personnel, marking one of the deadliest single incidents for American forces since the conflict began.

Major Jeffrey O’Brien and Robert Marzan Identified

According to the Pentagon, the fifth victim has been identified as Major Jeffrey O’Brien, 35. A resident of Dallas County, Iowa, O’Brien was a veteran officer who joined the US Army in 2012. Records show he had been deployed to the Kuwaiti theater since 2019, serving in a leadership capacity within the installation’s logistics command.

The sixth casualty was confirmed as Robert Marzan, 54, a contractor/specialist from California. While the military has provided his biographical details, a formal photograph has not yet been released to the public pending final family notifications.

Iranian Drone Swarm Penetrates Air Defenses

The fatal strike occurred when a wave of Iranian-manufactured suicide drones bypassed localized electronic warfare systems at the US base. While earlier reports from the White House had confirmed four initial casualties, the recovery of O’Brien and Marzan from the debris of the command center confirmed the final count of six.

“The loss of these brave individuals in Kuwait is a profound tragedy. We are ensuring their families receive the full support of the United States government during this darkest hour.” — Pentagon Spokesperson.

This attack is part of a broader retaliatory campaign by Tehran, following the sinking of the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena and previous strikes on Iranian leadership.

Deployment History and Military Honors

The identification of Major O’Brien has hit the Iowa community hard, as he was a well-known figure in local veteran circles. Robert Marzan, the oldest of the victims at 54, was reportedly nearing the end of his final tour of duty before retirement.

The Pentagon’s updated casualty list now includes:

  • Major Jeffrey O’Brien (Iowa)

  • Robert Marzan (California)

  • Four previously identified soldiers (Names released earlier this week).
