LAHORE (April 21, 2026) — The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday granted post-arrest bail to PTI social media activist Falak Javed in connection with a case involving the circulation of a doctored video of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari. Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry presided over the hearing, approving the bail against surety bonds of Rs1 million.
Legal Updates
- Bail granted to Javed and co-suspect Muhammad Shafiq; case stems from an NCCIA complaint regarding a viral fake video.
- LHC adjourned appeals of senior PTI leaders after the special prosecutor recused himself for personal reasons.
The “Fake Video” Controversy
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) initiated the case following a complaint from Azma Bokhari, who alleged that a fabricated video of her was being disseminated on social media to damage her reputation. While lower courts had previously dismissed the bail petitions, the LHC’s decision allows Javed’s release. The activist’s supporters have maintained the charges were politically motivated.
Stall in May 9 Judicial Process
The appeals of several high-profile PTI leaders, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, faced a fresh delay. Special Prosecutor Munir Ahmed Bhatti informed the court he could no longer represent the state in these cases. Consequently, the bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Rizvi adjourned the proceedings to allow the Punjab government time to appoint a new legal representative.
