Shangla, November 27, 2025 – The Malala Fund has approved more than Rs61.6 million for urgent rehabilitation in flood-ravaged Shangla, Buner, and Swat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials announced Thursday.
The funding targets the revival of small businesses and the restoration of private schools destroyed in the devastating August floods that claimed dozens of lives across the three districts.

Malala Fund boosts Businesses and Schools
Key allocations include Rs30.08million to restart flood-affected small businesses in Mingora and the surrounding areas of Swat, and Rs14 million to rebuild private schools in Swat and Shangla. An additional Rs16.8 million will provide libraries, schoolbags, stationery, and learning materials for 9,980 students in government schools across the region.

Nearly half the approved projects are already complete, with remaining work to begin as soon as the next tranche arrives.
Local communities welcomed the timely assistance, saying it will help restore livelihoods and bring children back to classrooms.
Malala Yousafzai’s father and Fund representatives had personally visited the affected areas shortly after the disaster and promised swift support – a commitment now fulfilled.
Meanwhile, Shangla Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Fawad directed all departments to act on Independent Monitoring Unit findings and intensify efforts to raise education standards across the district.
