MARDAN (April 13, 2026) — Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated on Sunday that the recent direct negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad should not be viewed as a failure. Addressing a massive “Dastoor-i-Islam Conference” at the Mardan Sports Complex, the veteran politician expressed hope that a second round of parleys would soon follow to restore regional stability.

At a Glance: The JUI-F Stance
-
Diplomatic Optimism: Rehman rejected the notion that the Islamabad talks had collapsed, anticipating a follow-up round.
-
National Image: He praised the “Islamabad Venue” for projecting a positive image of Pakistan as a global mediator.
-
Political Concession: The Maulana noted that his party had postponed scheduled protests to ensure the government had the space to facilitate the summit.
-
The Next Move: JUI-F announced its next “show of power” will be held in Balochistan as part of a continued anti-government movement.
Restoration of Global Stature
Rehman emphasized that for the last 78 years, Pakistan had aspired to play the role of a central peacemaker in the Islamic world. He characterized the hosting of the U.S. and Iranian delegations as a fulfillment of that potential. However, he balanced this praise with a warning that the country’s internal sovereignty remains under threat due to an “independent foreign policy” being compromised by international dictation on economic matters.
Criticism of the “Fake Mandate”
Despite his support for the state’s diplomatic efforts, the JUI-F chief launched a blistering attack on the current administration’s domestic legitimacy.
-
Parliamentary Disillusionment: He claimed that decisions would now be made “on the ground” rather than in Parliament, as the ruling quarters were allegedly ignoring parliamentary suggestions.
-
Economic Burden: The Maulana accused the government of increasing prices on the orders of international powers, demanding a reversal of recent hikes that have “burdened the common man.”
-
Historical Warning: Drawing a parallel to 1971, he alleged that the current behavior of those in power could harm national unity if the “fake mandate” and constitutional violations continue.
Regional Concerns and Resistance
The conference, attended by thousands of party workers and provincial leaders, also touched upon the broader Middle East crisis. Rehman condemned the “unprecedented atrocities” committed by the Zionist regime in Palestine and alleged a nexus between the Indian leadership and anti-Muslim forces.
Reaffirming his commitment to the imposition of Islamic laws as envisioned in the 1973 Constitution, the Maulana warned that JUI-F would not remain silent. He concluded by asserting that the fight for “real independence” and a sovereign state where people live with dignity would move to Balochistan in the next phase of his party’s nationwide campaign.
