The Khyber Police have launched an intensive modernization drive at the Shahkas Police Training Centre in Jamrud. This two-pronged initiative focuses on upgrading frontline combat skills with advanced weaponry while simultaneously streamlining citizen services through a dedicated facilitation hub.
According to a statement from the District Police Officer (DPO) on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, these efforts are critical for adapting to the “rapidly changing security landscape” in the merged districts.
Advanced Weapons Training & Sniper Selection
Under the supervision of SP Investigations Shafeeq Khan, personnel are undergoing rigorous training to master high-tech equipment recently inducted into the force.
- Modern Arsenal: Training includes the tactical use of Thermal Weapons, Sniper Rifles, and Night Vision Devices, alongside standard-issue Kalashnikovs.
- Operational Goal: The sessions aim to minimize response times during “untoward incidents” and ensure the force can handle night-time counter-terrorism operations effectively.
- Elite Selection: The department is using these drills to identify and select the district’s best sharp shooters for the upcoming Provincial Police Shooting Competition.

The 2026 Reform Agenda
This localized training in Khyber aligns with the provincial government’s broader 100-day reform agenda led by CM Sohail Afridi. The province recently approved Rs7.77 billion for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and is currently rolling out Safe City projects across priority districts, including Peshawar and its surrounding areas, with a deadline of June 2026.
