KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday directed authorities to expedite work on the long-delayed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project during an extensive visit to inspect major development and transport infrastructure projects across Karachi.
The chief minister reviewed progress on several ongoing schemes, including the BRT Red and Green Line corridors, Shahrah-i-Bhutto, Korangi Causeway Bridge Junction, Malir River bridges and multiple flyovers in the Malir area. He was accompanied by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and senior officials from relevant departments.
During his inspection of the BRT Red Line, which runs from Malir Cantonment to Numaish, the chief minister sought an explanation for repeated delays. Project officials informed him that work had been slowed due to heavy rainfall, relocation of utilities and design-related changes.
Emphasising the need for timely completion, Murad Ali Shah said development projects should be completed at the earliest with minimal inconvenience to the public. “Local communities and traders must be facilitated, and environmental and safety standards must be strictly observed,” he said, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister House.
Highlighting the importance of the project, the chief minister said the BRT Red Line was intended to provide fast, safe, dignified and environmentally friendly transport to Karachi’s residents. “This project will revolutionise daily commuting in the city,” he added.
He also inspected ongoing construction work on the BRT Green Line along M.A. Jinnah Road and instructed authorities to accelerate the pace of work while ensuring safety measures and smooth traffic flow. He directed all departments, consultants and contractors to improve coordination, enhance monitoring and use modern technology and management tools to ensure projects are completed on time and to high quality standards.
Murad Ali Shah said Karachi’s development initiatives were not merely construction projects but long-term investments aimed at improving traffic management, boosting economic growth and enhancing the quality of life. “There will be no compromise on quality, transparency or timelines,” he asserted.

During the visit, the chief minister also inspected the Korangi Causeway Bridge, which serves as a junction of Shahrah-i-Bhutto. Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah informed him that construction began on October 1, 2025, and approximately 40 per cent of the project had been completed.

The chief minister noted that the Korangi Causeway often submerges during the monsoon season, leading to severe traffic disruptions. He said the completion of the junction would help ensure smoother traffic flow and provide long-term relief to commuters.
He further inspected the N-5 bridge over the Malir River near Murghi Khana and the Khalid Bin Walid Road flyover at Bhains Colony, reviewing progress and directing officials to maintain momentum on all ongoing projects.
