Pakistan Army Responds to Unprovoked Fire by Afghan Taliban, FAK at Kurram Border

Kurram, KP – Oct 15, 2025: Tensions flared once again along the Pak-Afghan border late Tuesday night, as the Pakistan Army responded forcefully to unprovoked firing from Afghan Taliban militants and the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to state-run PTV News.

Quoting security sources, PTV reported that the “Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij” initiated the assault in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Pakistan Army retaliated with “full force and intensity,” causing significant damage to Taliban positions, including the destruction of multiple posts and tank installations. One Taliban tank was reportedly set ablaze during the exchange, prompting fighters to abandon their positions.

In a follow-up report, PTV confirmed the destruction of a fourth tank position at the Shamsadar post. It also cited unverified reports about the killing of a key TTP commander during the operation.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch briefed foreign diplomats in Islamabad, reiterating Pakistan’s right to defend its territorial integrity. “Pakistan has legitimate security concerns and will take all necessary measures to ensure national security,” the Foreign Office said.

The fresh clashes follow a weekend of heightened tensions, during which 23 Pakistani troops were martyred. Islamabad claimed over 200 Afghan Taliban and affiliated militants were killed in retaliatory action.

Afghanistan, however, accused Pakistan of cross-border air strikes last week, calling its own attack “retaliatory.” Islamabad has neither confirmed nor denied conducting such strikes but has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop sheltering TTP elements on Afghan soil.
