Trump Thanks PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Asim Munir for Role in Gaza Peace Deal

Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt – October 14, 2025 — United States President Donald Trump on Monday thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, referring to him as “my favourite,” for their efforts in securing a historic ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

Trump made the remarks at the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit, following the signing ceremony of the Gaza peace agreement. Addressing world leaders, Trump said, “I want to especially thank Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and my favourite, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for their vital contributions to this peace effort.”

PM Shehbaz’s Special Address

Prime Minister Shehbaz was invited to deliver a special address at the ceremony. In his speech, he hailed the occasion as “one of the greatest days in contemporary history.”

“Peace has been achieved after untiring efforts led by President Trump, who has worked relentlessly to make this world a place of peace and prosperity,” the premier said.

He went on to re-nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in ending the Gaza war and previously preventing conflict between India and Pakistan.

“Had it not been for this gentleman… the war could’ve escalated to a level no one could imagine,” said PM Shehbaz.
“President Trump, your contribution will be remembered in golden words.”

The Pakistani leader also extended gratitude to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Qatari Emir, and the leadership of Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Türkiye for supporting the mediation.

Trump’s Response

Returning to the podium, Trump responded with a light-hearted remark:

“Wow! I didn’t expect that. Let’s go home, there’s nothing more I have to say. That was really beautiful, thank you very much.”

Peace Plan and Global Support

The summit was the culmination of a 20-point plan brokered by Trump, with backing from eight Muslim-majority nations. The plan includes:

  • A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas

  • Release of hostages and prisoners

  • Commitments to reconstruction in Gaza

  • Steps toward a two-state solution

While Israel and Hamas did not attend the summit directly, the deal was facilitated through Qatari and Egyptian mediation.

Over 67,000 Palestinians were killed during two years of war, and the humanitarian crisis prompted global pressure for a resolution.
