Pakistan Launches Third Hangor-Class Submarine in China

WUHAN, China – August 15, 2025:
Pakistan has officially launched its third Hangor-class submarine, named PNS/M Mangro, at a ceremony held in Wuhan, China.

The Project

The Mangro is part of the Hangor-class submarine program, one of the largest defense collaborations between Pakistan and China.

  • Pakistan is acquiring eight submarines under the deal.
  • Four are being built in China, while the other four will be constructed at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW) under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) program.
  • The first two submarines were launched in 2024.

The induction of these submarines marks a major step in modernizing the Pakistan Navy’s submarine fleet.
