BAHAWALPUR, Oct 31: The Punjab government has disbursed Rs6.39 billion among flood-affected families across the province as part of the Chief Minister Flood Rehabilitation Programme, aimed at assisting those impacted by this year’s devastating floods.
The announcement was made by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb during a ceremony held on Thursday at Jinnah Stadium in Khairpur Tamewali, approximately 45 kilometres from Bahawalpur. The event marked the distribution of ATM cards to beneficiaries as part of the province’s ongoing relief efforts.
According to Ms Aurangzeb, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has completed 90 per cent of the flood assessment survey, covering 569,000 victims, while data for 463,000 of them has been verified by respective deputy commissioners to ensure transparency in fund distribution.
An official statement from Lahore said that 98,000 ATM cards have been prepared, with 37 camps established across 27 flood-hit districts to facilitate compensation payments through the Bank of Punjab (BoP). Each verified victim will receive Rs50,000 in cash along with an ATM card.

Phased Disbursement Plan
Compensation payments began on October 20 in 13 districts, while disbursement in the remaining areas is set to commence in the second phase from November 3.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries can withdraw up to Rs300,000 per day from BoP ATMs. A total of 19 distribution camps have been set up in 36 tehsils, where 500 victims at each site are being provided with cash and ATM cards.
Relief camps have also been established in Bahawalnagar, Depalpur, Jhang, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Chiniot, and Khairpur Tamewali to assist those affected.

Rehabilitation Efforts
Ms Aurangzeb said the government has transferred Rs20 billion to the Bank of Punjab for the rehabilitation of flood victims, out of which Rs11 billion has already been credited to beneficiaries’ accounts. She added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz remains personally committed to ensuring the complete rehabilitation of all affected families, noting that the process began within a record 26 days of the disaster.
“The Punjab government will continue to stand by the flood victims until their full rehabilitation,” the minister said.
The senior minister was accompanied by Irrigation Minister Mian Kazim Hussain Pirzada, Khwaja Salman Rafique, Malik Sohaib Ahmed Berth, MPA Rana Tariq, PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia, Divisional Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen, Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Farhan Farooq, and former senator Saood Majid Chaudhry.
Ms Aurangzeb also highlighted that the survey work in 72 tehsils of flood-affected districts has been completed ahead of schedule, despite earlier projections that the process would take up to six months.
