CDF Asim Munir Meets President Erdogan to Boost Defence Ties

ANKARA — Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday during an official state visit aimed at cementing high-level strategic and military cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the visit featured extensive, high-level dialogues with Turkiye’s political and military leaders to address shared regional security dynamics.

Strategic Engagements in Ankara

Field Marshal Munir called on President Erdogan and Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler to review bilateral defence production partnerships and examine regional safety parameters in an increasingly fluid geopolitical landscape.

During his formal visit to the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, the CDF was accorded a static guard of honor. He then went into a deep-dive meeting with the Chief of the Turkish General Staff, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.

Key outcomes from the high-level military discussions included expanding joint training exercises and instructional exchanges across all army branches, exploring direct co-production frameworks and intelligence sharing protocols, and building on the foundations of the June 2026 visit to Pakistan by Turkish Land Forces Commander General Metin Tokel.

In recognition of his consistent efforts to foster closer operational coordination between the two fraternal armies, General Bayraktaroğlu conferred the prestigious Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal upon Field Marshal Munir during a formal ceremony.

Following his military engagements, Field Marshal Munir visited Anıtkabir — the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk — where he laid a floral wreath and paid tribute to the founder of modern Turkiye.

Both defense commands reiterated their determination to maintain consistent diplomatic and tactical collaboration to preserve regional peace and balance.
