MOHMAND — A woman and her young daughter lost their lives on Thursday, January 29, 2026, when the roof of their home collapsed following a relentless spell of winter rain in the Ambar tehsil of Mohmand district.
Incident Details: Had Kor, Ambar Tehsil
The tragedy occurred in the Had Kor area at the residence of a local man named Abdullah Khan.
- Victims: Abdullah’s wife and their three-year-old daughter, Zuhra, were buried under the debris when the mud-roof caved in due to structural saturation from the ongoing rainfall.
- Recovery: Rescue teams and local residents retrieved the bodies from the rubble.
Second Collapse: Khewazai Tehsil
A separate but similar incident was reported in the Kaka Kor area of Khewazai tehsil.
- Casualties: The wife of Gulzar, along with their two-year-old son Musa and three-year-old daughter Aqsa, sustained injuries.
- Status: The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Afghan Repatriation Begins in Mohmand
Amidst the weather-related emergencies, a significant administrative development occurred in the Lower Mohmand subdivision.
Assistant Commissioner Owais Khan confirmed on Thursday that the formal repatriation of Afghan refugees has commenced in Ekkaghund tehsil.
- Phase One: A convoy of six families departed voluntarily for Afghanistan.
- Process: The return is being supervised by the district administration to ensure dignity and safety.
- Future Outlook: Officials stated the process will continue in phases, based on mutual consultation with local elders and the refugee community.
