Islamabad | September 9, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to speed up relief and rescue efforts in flood-affected areas as rising river levels continue to threaten communities across Pakistan.

- Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized early warning systems and timely evacuations for people living near vulnerable riverbanks.
- He instructed NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial governments to ensure a unified and effective response.
- The PM also ordered authorities to intensify the search for missing persons and ensure swift delivery of food, medicine, and shelter to displaced families.
NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik briefed the Prime Minister on the current flood situation, highlighting severe conditions in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers at Trimmu, Panjnad, Head Balloki, Head Sidhnai, Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulemanki, and Head Islam. He confirmed that relief convoys carrying essential aid are being dispatched continuously.
The Prime Minister expressed concern over the displacement of people and urged authorities to remain vigilant against further risks. He called for “full preparedness at every level” to protect vulnerable populations.
The government has assured citizens that all necessary resources are being mobilized to respond to the crisis. Relief agencies have already evacuated thousands from danger zones, but with floodwaters still rising, officials warn that the next 48 hours will be critical.
