In a solemn yet celebratory ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Pakistan’s highest military and civil awards on the nation’s top armed forces leadership, recognizing their exceptional service during the recent military conflict with India, known as “Marka-e-Haq”.

The event, held on Independence Day, was attended by senior government officials, foreign dignitaries, and families of the award recipients. It marked a symbolic moment of gratitude from the nation to the commanders who led Pakistan’s defense during a critical chapter in its history.
Honorees and Awards
- Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir – Hilal-e-Jurat: Awarded for his exceptional leadership as Chief of Army Staff, orchestrating the overall war strategy and leading the Pakistan Army to a decisive outcome in Marka-e-Haq.
- Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu – Hilal-e-Jurat: Recognized for courage and strategic brilliance in commanding the Pakistan Air Force during intense aerial engagements.
- General Sahir Shamshad Mirza – Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military): Honored as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee for his role in joint force coordination and operational oversight.
- Admiral Naveed Ashraf – Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military): Decorated for his contributions as Chief of Naval Staff in securing maritime defense and ensuring naval readiness throughout the conflict.
President Zardari praised the honorees for their “unwavering commitment, professional excellence, and the courage to lead in the face of grave challenges.” He emphasized that Marka-e-Haq was not just a military success but a testament to Pakistan’s unity and resolve.
The ceremony concluded with the national anthem and a standing ovation for the decorated officers, symbolizing the nation’s collective pride in its defenders.
