LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 14: Security forces arrested multiple facilitators of militants during a day-long clean-up operation in Lakki Marwat on Thursday, officials said. The joint action, conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and district police, followed credible intelligence regarding the presence of Khwarij elements in remote parts of the district.

District police spokesman Hassan said personnel from Tajori, Bragi and Shaheed Asmatullah Khan police stations, along with CTD teams and Rapid Response Force (RRF) commandos, took part in the operation under the directives of Regional Police Officer Bannu Sajjad Khan and DPO Lakki Marwat Nazir Khan.

“The Naurang Circle SDPO Saeed Khan and CTD DSP led the offensive, during which hideouts used by terrorists were destroyed,” the spokesman added. While authorities did not specify the number of arrests, they confirmed that several facilitators were detained and weapons and ammunition were recovered.

DPO Nazir told Dawn that police remained “fully alert and vigilant” to prevent militant activity. “All attempts by terrorists to execute their nefarious plans will be thwarted with full force,” he said.

The operation comes two days after CTD and police killed two suspected militants in an intelligence-based raid in the Mamakhel Havaid area of Bannu. In a separate incident on Tuesday night, militants killed former police official Abid Khan, dumping his body in the Daud Shah locality.

Afghan Families Repatriated from Karak

Meanwhile, several Afghan families left Karak for Afghanistan on Thursday as part of the ongoing repatriation process. According to officials, the district administration organised the “dignified departure” of 31 Afghan nationals via the Torkham border crossing.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sahibzada Samiullah, who saw off the families, said arrangements had been made to provide transport and logistical support. “This initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring a respectful and orderly repatriation,” he said. Additional DC (relief and human rights) Muhammad Saood Orakzai was also present at the farewell.

The repatriations come amid heightened security measures across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following a recent surge in militant attacks targeting police and security installations.
