Islamabad, November 28, 2025 (AFP) – Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Friday strongly condemned a deadly cross-border terrorist attack in southern Tajikistan that killed three Chinese workers, stating that the use of armed drones in the assault “underlines the gravity of the threat emanating from Afghanistan and the brazenness of those behind it.”

Tajik authorities confirmed Thursday that militants operating from northern Afghanistan launched a combined drone and firearm attack on employees of a Chinese company near the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border. A grenade-laden drone and small-arms fire were used in the strike, marking a rare public acknowledgment by Dushanbe of security incidents along the 1,350-kilometre frontier.

In an early-morning statement, the FO extended Pakistan’s condolences to China and Tajikistan, describing the incident as a “heinous terrorist attack” and expressing full solidarity with both nations.“As a neighbour that has repeatedly suffered terrorist attacks orchestrated from Afghan soil, the people of Pakistan fully understand and share the grief and anguish of our Chinese friends and Tajik partners,” the statement read.
Islamabad reiterated its long-standing demand that Afghan territory must not be allowed to be used for terrorism against neighbouring countries, warning that the continued presence and patronage of terrorist groups under the Taliban regime poses a serious threat to regional and international security.

The attack comes amid deteriorating Pakistan-Afghanistan ties, primarily over Islamabad’s accusations that the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) enjoys sanctuary and support inside Afghanistan – charges the Taliban government in Kabul consistently denies.
Pakistan called for “concrete and verifiable action” against perpetrators, facilitators, and financiers of terror groups operating from Afghan soil, pledging continued close cooperation with China, Tajikistan, and other regional partners to ensure peace and stability.
