UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Arrives in Islamabad for Official Visit

Islamabad, December 26, 2025 – United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is set to arrive in Islamabad today on his first official visit to Pakistan as head of state. The visit comes as both nations look to deepen their longstanding brotherly ties. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will host the Emirati leader for wide-ranging talks covering bilateral relations, trade, investment, and shared perspectives on regional and global matters.

This marks President Al Nahyan’s second trip to Pakistan this year — following a January meeting with Prime Minister Sharif in Rahim Yar Khan — but his inaugural official engagement in the role.

Key Highlights

  • Talks to focus on entire spectrum of Pakistan-UAE relations, including trade, energy, investment, and development cooperation
  • Discussions expected on regional stability and international issues of mutual interest
  • Visit underscores deep historical, diplomatic, economic, and cultural bonds between the two countries
  • Large Pakistani expatriate community in UAE continues to strengthen people-to-people links
  • UAE remains one of Pakistan’s top trading partners and vital source of remittances
  • Earlier this year, both sides signed MoUs on culture, consular affairs, and establishment of a joint business council

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

The Foreign Office described the visit as an important opportunity to advance collaboration in key sectors. Officials noted that Pakistan and the UAE have consistently supported each other on various fronts, with the Emirates extending valuable financial and humanitarian assistance over the years.
Defence ties, energy projects, and investment initiatives form core pillars of the relationship. Thousands of Pakistanis contribute across sectors in the UAE, while joint efforts continue to promote economic growth and stability.

Recent Steps Forward

In April, the two countries exchanged multiple memoranda of understanding aimed at enhancing cultural exchanges and business ties. These included agreements on consular cooperation and the creation of a UAE-Pakistan Joint Business Council between their respective chambers of commerce.
Such steps reflect ongoing commitment to broader partnership.
The visit is expected to yield positive outcomes, further solidifying the warm and multifaceted relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates — ties rooted in mutual respect and shared aspirations for prosperity and peace in the region.
