Peshawar, November 5: A man was killed and another injured as heavy rain and the season’s first snowfall lashed several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Tuesday, disrupting daily life, damaging crops, and blocking major roads.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Saidu Sharif recorded the highest rainfall at 61mm, followed by Lower Dir with 20mm, Kakul 19mm, and Kalam 13mm during the past 24 hours. The downpour, accompanied by strong winds and hailstorms, caused power outages and traffic disruptions across multiple districts.
In Lower Dir, a tragic accident occurred along the Talash-Sarai Payeen section of the main GT Road when an old tree collapsed onto a passenger van during the rainstorm. The incident claimed the life of Mohammad Hayat, a resident of Upper Dir, while another person sustained injuries. Rescue 1122 teams retrieved the victims using heavy machinery, but Hayat succumbed to his wounds at the hospital. Locals said they had repeatedly urged authorities to remove the decaying tree, but no action was taken.

The province’s mountainous regions — including Kumrat, Lowari Top, Doog Dara, and upper parts of Swat, Kaghan, and Kohistan — received the first snowfall of the season, turning landscapes picturesque but freezing cold. Tourist spots like Malam Jabba and Kalam attracted visitors despite travel disruptions and blocked link roads caused by landslides and overflowing streams.
