Faisalabad Commissioner Inaugurates Commissioner Cup Super 8 Stage, Promotes Grassroots Cricket

FAISALABAD: Commissioner Faisalabad Division Raja Jahangir Anwar officially inaugurated the Super 8 stage of the Commissioner Cup, part of the School Talent Hunt Program organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), at the Bohra Nawali Ground on Thursday. The tournament features eight school teams competing for the championship, with the final scheduled for December 15.

The ceremony began with Commissioner Anwar striking the first ball, symbolically launching the competition. Addressing the audience, he praised the initiative, calling it a “commendable effort” to nurture young talent at the grassroots level. He highlighted that reviving school-level cricket will not only strengthen regional competitions but also produce promising players for Faisalabad’s PSL team and national platforms.

“This initiative provides a platform for young cricketers to showcase their skills and gain recognition,” he said, adding that early exposure to competitive cricket is essential for developing future stars.

The event was attended by senior cricket officials and stakeholders, including President of the Faisalabad Regional Cricket Association, Rana Muhammad Anis, who expressed gratitude to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Director Domestic Cricket Khurram Niazi, and all officials involved in organizing the School Talent Hunt Program.

Other notable attendees included former association president Hasibullah Shahid, Aziz Ahmed Bhatti, Rana Noor Ul Mustufa, Tariq Bajwa, Aleem Ehsan, and District Cricket Association Finance Secretary Zaheer-ul-Hassan, along with several regional cricket officials.

The Commissioner Cup aims to strengthen grassroots cricket infrastructure in Faisalabad, encouraging young players to develop skills, gain competitive experience, and aspire to higher levels of the game. The tournament also reflects ongoing efforts to revive school cricket, aligning with broader PCB initiatives to identify and nurture talent from an early age.

With the Super 8 stage now underway, attention turns to the upcoming final on December 15, which promises to showcase some of the city’s most talented young cricketers and potentially reveal future stars for Pakistan cricket.
