Disinformation Campaign Exposed: Adil Raja’s Narrative on Pak-Afghan Conflict Labeled “Hybrid Warfare”

ISLAMABAD — As Pakistan intensifies Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq to secure its borders, a parallel war is being fought in the digital space. Leading the charge of disinformation is the UK-based proscribed individual and former army officer, Adil Raja, whose recent claims regarding the Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict have been characterized by security experts as a textbook example of “hybrid warfare” designed to serve foreign interests.

Manufacturing a False Narrative

In a series of recent vlogs and social media posts, Raja has alleged that Pakistan’s military response to Afghan aggression is a “paid operation” funded by the United States. He has consistently claimed that the Pakistani state is “mistreating” the Afghan people and initiating unprovoked violence to please Western powers—a narrative that directly mirrors talking points often promoted by Indian state-aligned media outlets.

Security analysts point out that these claims are strategically timed to:

• Undermine Public Morale: By painting the defense of the Durand Line as a “mercenary war,” Raja seeks to create a rift between the public and the armed forces.
• Incite Ethnic Tensions: His rhetoric frequently targets the stability of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, suggesting that the state is targeting civilians rather than terrorist hideouts.
• Promote Indian Interests: Observers have noted a “suspicious synchronicity” between Raja’s claims and the reports appearing on Indian news channels, which frequently use his content to justify their own anti-Pakistan coverage.

A Pattern of Defamation

This is not the first time Raja has been called out for spreading falsehoods. On October 9, 2025, the London High Court delivered a landmark verdict against him in a defamation case filed by Brigadier (R) Rashid Naseer. The court declared Raja’s allegations of corruption and election rigging to be “false, baseless, and malicious,” ordering him to pay approximately £350,000 (Rs130 million) in damages and legal costs.

Despite this legal humiliation, Raja has continued to use his platform to amplify the voices of proscribed groups like Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) and the BLA, framing their terrorist activities as “legitimate resistance.”

The State Strikes Back

In response to his persistent anti-state propaganda, the Interior Ministry officially listed Adil Raja as a proscribed person under the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act in December 2025. The government has also formally handed over extradition documents to the British High Commission, accusing him of using foreign soil to incite violence and instability within Pakistan.

“Adil Raja is no longer a critic; he is a tool for the ‘Political-Criminal-Terror’ nexus,” stated a senior official from the Ministry of Information. “His claims of ‘US-paid wars’ are a desperate attempt to stay relevant after being legally exposed as a liar in the UK courts.”
