Pakistan exit AFC U-23 qualifiers after 1-0 loss to Oman

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 10 — Pakistan’s hopes of advancing in the 2026 AFC Under-23 Asian Cup ended Tuesday after a 1-0 defeat to Oman at the Olympic Stadium. It was Pakistan’s third straight loss in Group G.

Turki Abdullah scored the only goal in the 16th minute, converting Said Alghanboosi’s set-piece after slipping past the offside trap. Despite spirited play, Pakistan could not find an equalizer.

Syed Ali Raza came closest, hitting the crossbar late in the first half. Goalkeeper Hassan Ali also kept Pakistan in the contest with key saves, while Mckeal Abdullah’s 75th-minute chance was denied by Oman’s Abdullah Aljabri.

A heavy downpour at halftime slowed both teams, but Oman held on to secure the win. Earlier in the group, Pakistan suffered an 8-1 loss to Iraq and a 1-0 defeat to hosts Cambodia. Iraq topped the group with seven points, Cambodia finished second with five, while Oman settled for third with four. Pakistan ended without a point.
