LAHORE, Sept. 10 — Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem said Tuesday he is ready to give his best as he departs for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, set for Sept. 13-21.

The 28-year-old javelin thrower, who made history by winning Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in 40 years with a record 92.97 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympics, looked sharp in his final training session at Punjab Stadium. He consistently cleared throws above 85 meters, signaling strong form.
“I always target to do my best in every event and I am going to Tokyo with the same mission with high hopes. The rest is up to God,” Arshad told reporters.
When asked about his much-anticipated contest with India’s Neeraj Chopra, he brushed it aside. “My competition is always against Arshad Nadeem; I have my competitions against myself,” he said.
Arshad missed two Diamond League meets last month while recovering from a calf injury, but has since cleared fitness tests. His doctor, Asad Abbas Shah, confirmed he is “in the best physical shape.”
The star athlete will compete in the qualifying round on Sept. 17, with the final scheduled a day later.
Before his departure, Arshad received an Olympic scholarship from Pakistan Olympic Association President Arif Saeed. The support, worth $1,125 per month until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, will aid his long-term preparations.
“I am thankful to the nation for always standing by me,” Arshad said. “I need more prayers to raise Pakistan’s flag high once again.”
