Riz Ahmed Plays “Bond (Sort Of)” in the Chaotic Official Trailer for Bait

The long-awaited official trailer for Bait, the meta-comedy series created by and starring Academy Award winner Riz Ahmed, was released on March 10, 2026. Set to premiere on Prime Video on March 25, the trailer offers a frenetic first look at a project that has been described as “James Bond-esque, but definitely not Bond.”

The “Audition of a Lifetime”

The series follows Shah Latif (Ahmed), a struggling London-based actor whose career is hanging by a thread. The trailer reveals the high-stakes premise: Shah has landed an audition for the world’s most famous spy. As the rumor of his potential casting as the next 007 leaks to the public, his life spirals into a spectacular four-day existential crisis.

Ahmed has described his character as a man who desperately wants to be perceived as a decisive, alpha-male “Bond” figure, while his actual reality is a “bit of a mess.” The trailer leans heavily into industry satire, capturing the absurdity of the casting process and the crushing weight of public and familial expectations.

A Powerhouse Ensemble

The trailer highlights a brilliant supporting cast that brings the domestic chaos to life:

Guz Khan (as Zulfi): Providing comedic relief as the sharp-tongued friend.

Sheeba Chaddha & Sajid Hasan: Portraying Shah’s parents, who, along with his ex-lover and the entire internet, have loud, conflicting opinions on whether he’s “the right man for the job.

Ritu Arya & Aasiya Shah: Adding to the hectic social web surrounding Shah’s mid-audition meltdown.

Meta-Commentary for 2026

Produced by Jax Media and Left Handed Films, Bait feels particularly timely. With Amazon MGM Studios now leading the creative direction of the real James Bond franchise, Ahmed’s show serves as a self-aware parody of the very ecosystem it inhabits. Directed by Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) and showrun by Ben Karlin (The Daily Show), the series promises to be a “personal and bold” exploration of identity, fame, and the gap between who we are and who we pretend to be on camera.
