Karachi Family Awaits Body of Pakistani Citizen Martyred in Missile Strike

Mar 30, 2026 | Current Affairs

The ongoing regional conflict has struck a devastating blow to a family in Karachi. Yasir Khan, a young Pakistani expatriate from the Younusabad (Maripur) area, was martyred during a missile attack on Iran’s Chabahar Port on March 23, 2026. His family is now appealing to the government for the immediate repatriation of his remains.

The Incident: Attack on the “Duck Boat”

Yasir Khan, who had moved to Iran six months ago for a better future, was working on a specialized vessel (described as a duck boat) at Chabahar Port when it was struck by a missile during the U.S.-Israeli aerial campaign.

  • The Martyrdom: According to his brother, Wajid Khan, Yasir’s body remained underwater for four days following the strike before it could be recovered and identified.
  • Survivor’s Account: The news was broken to the family by Subhanullah, another Karachi resident and Yasir’s roommate, who was injured in the same attack. Subhanullah is currently receiving treatment in an Iranian hospital.
  • The Contract: Yasir was a trained deck hand and had only three months remaining on his nine-month contract before he was scheduled to return home to his wife and young child.

The Family’s Final Contact

In a heartbreaking detail, the family revealed that their last video call with Yasir took place during Ramadan. During the call, Yasir expressed deep fear regarding the intensifying war in Iran and pleaded with his family to arrange for his evacuation. Despite their efforts to contact his employment agent and the boat’s owner, the communication blackout and damaged networks at the port made a rescue impossible.

Repatriation and Support Efforts

As of March 30, 2026, the process of bringing Yasir’s body back to Karachi is underway:

  • Taftan Border: Yasir’s brothers and relatives have reached the Taftan border to complete the legal proceedings with Iranian authorities.
  • Edhi Foundation: Faisal Edhi confirmed that an Edhi volunteer camp is established at the border. An ambulance is on standby to transport the body from the Taftan border directly to Karachi once the handover is complete.
  • Appeal for Aid: The martyr’s widow and children are currently without a breadwinner. The family has issued an urgent appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Sindh Government, and the President of Pakistan to provide financial assistance and secure the future of Yasir’s innocent children.
