ISLAMABAD, May 7 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level telephonic conversation with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on Thursday to discuss the evolving regional security landscape. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the Middle East. PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude for Qatar’s support of Pakistan’s role as the “sole mediator” between the U.S. and Iran following the regional conflict earlier this year. Both leaders agreed to maintain strict coordination to break the current diplomatic impasse and prevent further instability.

Quick Facts

  • The discussion centered on regional stability and the Pakistan-brokered U.S.-Iran peace process.
  • Qatar reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s diplomatic mediation efforts in the Middle East.
  • PM Shehbaz extended an invitation to the Emir of Qatar for an official visit to Pakistan.
  • The call follows recent high-level meetings in Doha between the two leaderships in February and April.

The conversation highlights Pakistan’s central role in global diplomacy, particularly after being acknowledged by both the White House and Tehran as the primary facilitator for direct talks.
