SINDH, May 4 — The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi announced on Monday that it has recovered 80 acres of government land that was unlawfully occupied by Bahria Town. The land, situated in the Gulshan-i-Sarmast housing scheme in Hyderabad’s Deh Ganjo Takkar area, is valued at approximately Rs6 billion. According to a bureau press release, the property giant originally gained possession through an illegal allotment for just Rs383 million, a payment on which the developer eventually defaulted. Officials noted that the land was originally earmarked for a university, but the developer failed to meet the conditions of the agreement.

Quick Facts

  • NAB recovered 80 acres of state-owned land in Hyderabad valued at Rs6 billion.
  • The land was illegally allotted to Bahria Town for a university project.
  • The developer defaulted on the initial, undervalued payment of Rs383 million.
  • The Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) canceled the allotment following NAB’s intervention.
  • The partially paid amount by the developer has been forfeited by the state.
  • Perpetual arrest warrants were recently issued for the project’s owners in related land cases.

The recovery follows a coordinated effort between NAB and the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA). The HDA officially revoked the allotment and seized the property after the bureau pointed out the legal violations and the failure to build the promised educational institution. This action is part of a broader crackdown on illegal land transfers involving high-profile developers and government officials.

This development coincides with recent judicial actions against the management of Bahria Town. Last week, an accountability court issued permanent arrest warrants for the property tycoon and his associates. The state remains committed to reclaiming public assets and ensuring that prime land is used for its intended social and developmental purposes. Monitoring of similar land allotments across the province continues as part of the national anti-corruption drive.
