DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 31: A Frontier Corps (FC) soldier and a police constable were martyred in separate gun attacks in Dera Ismail Khan and Khyber district on Thursday, while security operations continued in parts of Tirah valley amid rising militant activity across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to police, FC official Rabstaan Khan, 39, was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Tank Adda, within the jurisdiction of the City Police Station in D.I. Khan. The attackers managed to flee the scene after the shooting.
Rabstaan Khan, originally from Umr Adda in Tank district, was residing in Chah Amir Wala, Punjab’s Bhakkar district, at the time of the incident.
A passerby, identified as Mohammad Khalil, 51, a resident of Zafarabad Colony, sustained injuries in the attack and was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Police launched an investigation and search operation to trace the assailants.
Policeman Shot Dead in Khyber
In a separate incident the same day, police constable Ramdad Khan was gunned down in what officials described as a terrorist attack in the Jabba area of Jamrud tehsil, Khyber tribal district.
Police said the constable, belonging to the Mandrilhel-Katiyalhel subtribe, was sitting in a shop when two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire, killing him on the spot.
“It appears to be an act of terrorism as the constable had no known enmity,” a police official said.
Authorities acknowledged that the remote Jabba area has seen increased militant activity in recent months due to its proximity to Bara tehsil, from where terrorists have reportedly infiltrated Tirah valley.
A funeral prayer for the martyred policeman was held at Police Lines Shah Kas, attended by DPO Rae Mazhar Iqbal, local officials, family members, and tribal elders.

Local sources from Bar Qambarkhel said that security personnel had instructed families in Guhday, Mandali, and Mastikhel localities to evacuate to safer areas to avoid collateral damage. A curfew was also imposed in the conflict zone, complicating evacuation efforts amid intense gunfire.
Residents said that families were cautioned against allowing women to wear burqas while leaving the area due to concerns that militants might attempt to escape disguised as civilians.
