In a striking shift from past praise, former U.S. President Donald Trump has unleashed sharp criticism against India, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of profiteering from Russian oil sales while civilians continue to die in Ukraine. Trump’s remarks, posted on Truth Social, claimed that India is not only purchasing “massive amounts of Russian oil” but also reselling it on the global market for profit—effectively financing Russia’s war machine.
“They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine,” Trump wrote, threatening to “substantially raise tariffs” on Indian imports to the United States.
This comes after Trump’s August 1 decision to impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods, with warnings of future penalties going up to 100% if India does not change course. U.S. officials, including Trump’s top aide Stephen Miller, have directly accused India of undermining international sanctions and turning a blind eye to human suffering for economic gain.
