LAHORE — August 29, 2025: Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) President and Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs, Ramesh Singh Arora, has strongly condemned India for what he described as a deliberate act of “water terrorism” that caused flooding in Kartarpur and other parts of Punjab.

Key Allegations

  • Water Release from Ravi: Arora accused the Modi government of releasing 250,000 cusecs of water into the Ravi River without following the Indus Water Treaty protocols, directly contributing to the inundation of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib and surrounding areas.
  • Attack on Sikh Sentiments: He termed the act as a failed attempt to hurt Sikh religious sentiments worldwide.

Pakistan’s Swift Response

  • Arora praised the Pakistan Army, Punjab government, and local authorities for their timely rescue and relief operations.
  • He said their rapid action ensured the safety of pilgrims and sacred scriptures, preventing a potential tragedy.

Call for Unity

  • The PSGPC president urged the Sikh community to stay united and take part in Kar Seva (voluntary service) once the water recedes.
  • He assured the Sikh community that the Pakistani government stands firmly with them and will protect their sacred sites at all costs.

Wider Context

While Arora’s remarks reflect longstanding concerns over India’s water management practices, he highlighted that Pakistan’s institutions have demonstrated commitment by treating the crisis as a national responsibility.
