Pakistan has approved a 53-member contingent to participate in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, set to take place in Bahrain from October 22 to 31, 2025. The event marks the return of the Games after a 12-year gap, with the last edition held in 2013.
Athletes to compete in eight sports as event returns after 12 years
The approval was granted by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) following clearances from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pending final nod from the Ministry of Interior.

Strict Merit Policy, No Self-Sponsorship
In a bid to protect the integrity of national sports, the PSB has enforced a merit-only selection policy.
DG PSB Yasir Pirzada has barred self-sponsorship — a practice previously used by privileged individuals to bypass official selection.
“This contingent represents the pure sporting talent of our nation,” a PSB spokesperson said.
“Every athlete selected has earned their place through performance, not privilege. The era of using sports as a gateway for foreign trips is over.”
A Statement of Sporting Intent
The 53-member contingent reflects a strategic push to spotlight young athletes on an international stage, with Pakistan aiming to strengthen its presence in Asian sports and promote fair selection practices.
