DG ISPR highlights Political Missteps, Weak Governance for KP’s Terror Resurgence

PESHAWAR – October 11, 2025— Pakistan’s top military spokesperson DG ISPR , Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has drawn a direct line between weak governance in KP and the resurgence of terrorism in the province. Addressing media at the Peshawar Corps Headquarters, he accused provincial leadership of failing to protect the public while political elements misled the nation on counterterrorism strategies.

“The people of KP are paying the price for political confusion and compromised governance,” the DG ISPR said. He reiterated that terrorism cannot be countered through appeasement or inconsistent policies. “One individual and his narrative are primarily responsible for bringing terrorism back to KP,” he added, without naming names.

Gen Chaudhry said that following the 2014 APS attack, a united political and military front implemented the National Action Plan (NAP). However, that consensus eroded in 2021, when critical provisions were removed under political pressure. He questioned the progress on 13 out of 14 NAP points, citing operational data to show that security forces were fulfilling their part.

He also slammed the under-resourced KP Police, revealing that the force remains at just 3,200 personnel despite growing threats. “Is that enough for a province facing daily terrorist threats?” he asked.

The DG also highlighted that 58 Afghan terrorists were killed in KP in 2024, and that modern U.S.-origin weapons left in Afghanistan post-2021 are now being recovered from militant hideouts in Pakistan.
