ISLAMABAD, Nov 1, 2025: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday reaffirmed his party’s commitment to resolving the ongoing political crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), asserting that the PPP “has a reputation for finding political solutions.”
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Bilawal said the PPP was now in a position to form the government in AJK after its strength in the 53-member Legislative Assembly rose to 27. The party’s numbers increased when 10 lawmakers — originally elected on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) tickets in the 2021 general elections — joined the PPP earlier this week.
The PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have finalised a joint no-confidence motion against AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, which is expected to be tabled soon. However, the PPP has yet to announce its candidate for the top office. Sources said the nominee would likely be revealed following a meeting of the PPP’s AJK parliamentary party chaired by Bilawal.

The move has the backing of both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who approved the plan earlier this week after consultations with party leaders.
Bilawal, reflecting on his party’s long-standing connection with the Kashmir cause, said: “PPP’s foundation was laid in the name of Kashmir, and three generations of our leadership have worked for it at both national and international levels.” He expressed disappointment over what he called “non-political behaviour” that had created a governance vacuum in the region, warning that it could undermine the Kashmir cause globally.
He also criticised the circumstances surrounding the 2021 AJK elections, alleging that the results had been manipulated under the previous PTI government and establishment influence.

Vowing not to let the people of Kashmir down, Bilawal promised to “give a befitting response to any conspiracy against AJK.”
Meanwhile, sources close to PM Haq said that despite earlier reports suggesting he might resign, he intends to face the no-confidence vote and continue as chief executive until a formal decision is made.
