ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari met Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country, the PPP’s media cell said in a statement.
The meeting took place at the JUI-F leader’s residence in Islamabad, with senior PPP figures Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Humayun Khan, and Jamil Soomro accompanying Bilawal. JUI-F lawmaker Maulana Asad Mahmood was also present.

According to a PPP post on X (formerly Twitter), both leaders exchanged views on the national political landscape and ongoing developments across the country. State-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that the two also discussed broader national issues and matters of mutual concern.
The meeting comes at a time of significant political realignment in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where ten members of the legislative assembly — all originally elected on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) tickets during the 2021 elections — announced their decision to join the PPP. The shift has bolstered the PPP’s position in the 53-member assembly, where it now holds the support of 27 members. The PML-N follows with nine seats, PTI with five, and two regional parties with one seat each.
The political shakeup has strengthened the PPP’s chances of forming the next government in AJK and securing the prime minister’s slot.

The meeting between Bilawal and Fazlur Rehman also coincided with the JUI-F’s announcement of a planned “long march” on Islamabad. A day earlier, JUI-F Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri had said the party would hold nationwide protests against rising inflation, unemployment, and what he termed “anti-people economic policies dictated by the IMF.”
He accused the government of being “disconnected from public issues” and declared that JUI-F would “not accept IMF-imposed economic slavery under any circumstances.”
