At least 12 militants were killed in separate intelligence-based operations conducted by security forces across Bajaur, Hangu, and North Waziristan between Friday night and Saturday, according to officials and local sources.

In North Waziristan’s Jhallar area, three militants were killed and a potential large-scale terrorist attack was foiled after troops destroyed a vehicle laden with explosives that was reportedly being prepared for a suicide mission, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

Acting on intelligence regarding the presence of what the statement described as “Khawarij belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al-Khawarij” — a term used by the state for militants of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — security forces “effectively engaged” the target and neutralised the threat.

“A sanitisation operation is under way to eliminate any remaining militants in the area,” the ISPR said, adding that Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign would continue “at full pace” to eradicate what it termed foreign-sponsored terrorism.

In Bajaur’s War Mamund tehsil, at least five militants were killed and several others injured during a two-day operation in the Badan area. Local residents reported heavy troop movement and sustained firing during the operation, which officials said was launched on the basis of intelligence about militant hideouts.

Sources claimed the group had been using a mosque built for refugees as a base of operations, though there was no official confirmation of this detail. Following the clashes, leaders of the Bajaur Aman Jirga held a demonstration in the Umary area, urging authorities to ensure civilian safety during counterterrorism actions.

In Hangu, four militants were killed late Friday after an IED attack that martyred SP (Operations) Asad Zubair and two police guards. A station house officer (SHO) was injured during the subsequent exchange of fire as police and security forces pursued the attackers into the surrounding hills.

The Hangu district has witnessed several militant attacks in recent months, most of which officials attribute to the banned TTP.
