Pakistan faces a rising flood threat this week as heavy monsoon rains continue to lash parts of the country. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), along with its National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), issued a formal flood warning on August 5, urging public caution and preparedness.
Flood Forecast: August 5–8
- Monsoon currents and a westerly trough are impacting upper and central Pakistan, expected to bring scattered heavy rainfall.
- Major rivers at risk include the Indus, Chenab, and Ravi, with water levels projected to rise significantly.
- The Chenab River at Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad may reach medium to high flood levels.
- River Jhelum, upstream of Mangla Dam, is likely to experience medium flows.
- River Sutlej downstream of Ferozepur is under low-level flood risk due to excess water released from Indian dams after heavy rainfall.
- Tarbela, Guddu, and Sukkur barrages remain at low flood levels for now, but could worsen.
- River Swat and River Kabul, along with their tributaries and local nullahs, are also expected to swell.
