Highlights
- Cyclone Shakhti weakens over the Arabian Sea, expected to depress further within 24 hours
- Isolated rain forecast for Sindh and Balochistan coastal regions today
- Squally winds up to 90 km/h expected near the Sindh coast; sea conditions to remain “very rough to high”

According to the PMD’s 11 am update, the “severe cyclonic storm Shakhti over west-central and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea has weakened into a cyclonic storm during the last six hours.” The system is likely to move east-southeastwards and further weaken into a depression within the next 24 hours.
Despite the weakening, coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to receive isolated showers today under the cyclone’s influence. Sea conditions near the Sindh coast will remain rough, with squally winds reaching up to 90 kilometres per hour, prompting authorities to advise fishermen to avoid the deep sea until conditions improve.
Over the north-west and west-central Arabian Sea, sea conditions will remain “very rough to high and then very high” in the next 24 hours before gradually subsiding thereafter, the PMD added.
Rescue operations and precautionary measures
On Sunday, security forces and locals carried out rescue operations for over a dozen fishing boats trapped in the Arabian Sea after high tides triggered by the cyclone.
Balochistan’s Provincial Secretary for Fisheries Tariq Qamar Baloch said all field officers had been placed on high alert, with close coordination underway between the Pakistan Navy, Levies Force, and local administration to monitor the evolving situation along the coast.

Background on Cyclone Shakhti
The weather system began as a deep depression over the Arabian Sea on Friday, intensifying into a named cyclone “Shakhti” within 24 hours and escalating into a severe cyclonic storm as it tracked toward the central-north Arabian Sea. While its strength has since reduced, authorities continue to monitor its movement closely for any sudden shifts.
With the cyclone losing intensity but still influencing coastal weather patterns, officials are urging residents and fishermen to remain cautious, especially in the face of rough sea conditions and strong gusts along the southern coast.
