KP Chief Minister holds consultations for major Islamabad protest to seek Imran Khan’s release

MANSEHRA, May 7 — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi announced on Wednesday that he is consulting with national political leaders, including Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, to coordinate a joint protest in the federal capital. Addressing a public gathering in Mansehra, the Chief Minister stated that the move is part of an escalated effort to secure the release of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan. CM Afridi emphasized that while legal avenues are being pursued in high courts and the Supreme Court, a unified political strategy is now being finalized for a march on Islamabad.

During his address, the Chief Minister expressed serious concerns regarding the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, describing the province as a “testing ground” for conflict. He criticized the federal government for failing to heed warnings about militant movements from the mountains into urban centers, which he claimed has led to the loss of civilian and security personnel lives. Afridi maintained that decisions regarding anti-terror operations must involve the provincial government and the people of KP to be effective.

In addition to political mobilization, the Chief Minister utilized the visit to launch several major infrastructure initiatives. The Rs25 billion uplift package for Mansehra includes a massive gravity water supply scheme, land acquisition for graveyards, and the development of recreational facilities at Kotkay Dam. He also approved the creation of Tanawal tehsil and pledged fresh investments in the local health and education sectors. PTI provincial leadership echoed his sentiments, vowing to continue their struggle for the party’s founding chairman.
